Grace: 5 life-changing letters!

 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
Romans 5:17

The number 5 in the bible means GRACE. It is no coincidence that the FIFTH chapter of the book of Romans gets to display GRACE in its broadest and deepest sense.

"Hey" is the fifth letter of the Hebrew alphabet and holds the value of 5 when written as a number (reference). In the Hebrew calendar, we are in the fifth millennium; so every year starts with the letter hey, meaning 5000. The year 2017 is 5777 in the Hebrew calendar. So we are living in a TIME where GRACE is the head of the years!

The fifth time Noah is mentioned in the Scriptures it says: "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD." Genesis 6:8

The fifth time Ruth is mentioned in the Scriptures it says: “And Ruth said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.” Ruth 2:2

David was only equipped with five small stones when he killed the giant Goliath. “Then he took  his staff in his hand, and chose five smooth stones from the brook (...)” 1 Samuel 17:40.

At times, five indicates just recompense or bounteous reward. Thieves must repay five times the value of the oxen they steal (Exodus 22:1). Benjamin was honored by Joseph with five times more food than his brothers (Genesis 43:34) and five sets of clothes (Genesis 45:22). We can’t forget that Jesus took five loaves to feed five thousand. It was abundance for the multitude (more at Biblical numbers).

"You made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet" Psalm 8:6

It is interesting that God created man with REMINDERS OF HIS GRACE in our very body: 5  fingers, 5 toes... grace causes us to STAND FIRM AND TO GO FORWARD in life; grace also enables us to RECEIVE first and then to GIVE; it makes us prosper in everything we do, for God´s favor is with us.

"And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand."
Genesis 39:3

 It is also neat that the social gesture of celebrating is a HIGH FIVE. We lift up GRACE: God´s favor upon our lives through Jesus Christ. In Jesus, we were given abundance of grace, so that we might reign in life! We are standing on a VICTORY GROUND! So let us CELEBRATE the GIFT of abundance of FAVOR over us!
