Learning to manage time...

To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven...
Ecclesiastes 3:1

Nowadays one of people´s greatest excuses is: "I don´t have time". But it really amazes me how that Jesus seemed to have time to every little and big thing as he walked on earth!

It is interesting to think that, besides all the daily concerns people normally have (working, making the bed, doing the dishes, being with family...), Jesus was here on earth as GOD as well, so we could sum up some more concerns there! YET, he was not moved by schedules, but by love and compassion.

When Jesus saw her, He felt great compassion for her,
and said to her, “Do not weep.”
Luke 7:13

It amazes me how that he would manage his agenda. A number of times we read passages showing that he made his communion with the Father his priority! The success of the rest of the day depended on this time of his day.

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35

We also see Jesus spending this time teaching and healing the multitudes, travelling from one place to another, YET he would ALWAYS STOP for one! And not only stop, but likewise go for one! The bible tells that when Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him saying: “Lord, my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.” And here is what Jesus replied:

I will come and heal him.
Matthew 8:7

The centurion never asked Jesus to go to his house and heal his servant. But Jesus will always exceed our expectations and requests! Jesus could simply have spoken a word of healing and the servant would be healed, yet Jesus would have (make) time for that person. He wouldn´t just choose what was more convenient. He was moved by the Spirit and not by his schedule.

And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
Matthew 14:14

We may think that Jesus would spend all his days doing "serious stuff" like that (healings, teachings, etc.). But we see that Jesus had time for having fun and that was "serious stuff" for him as well. He would go to weddings (John 2:2); he wouldn´t turn down an invitation for dinner (at Matthew´s house or Zaccheus´ house) (Mark 2:15; Luke 19:5); he would spend time with friends, like Lazarus (John 12:2), etc.

As Solomon wrote, there is a time for every thing under earth. We don´t need to be a slave of tight schedules like those around us. There is grace available for how we spend our days - and it is available even now!

For the Lord says,
“In the time of my favor I heard you,
and in the day of salvation I helped you.”
I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor,
now is the day of salvation.
2 Corinthians 6:2
