God´s perspective of time






"But forget not this one thing, beloved, 
that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, 
and a thousand years as one day." 
2 Peter 3:8
Peter, one of Jesus´ disciples, learned a precious lesson about time. When Jesus revealed them that it was TIME for him to die, Peter was immediately against it, for he didn´t think it was TIME for Jesus to die, it was TOO early. 

Matha, Lazarus´ sister, said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.” (John 11:21). She was convicted that Jesus arrived AFTER the proper TIME, in other words, he was TOO late.

Most of the time we either think it is NOT the time for something to happen, or it IS PAST time for something to happen; this constant war in our head leads us to this place of unrestlessness. 

Because our earthly time is limited, we usually get preoccupied with controlling the time when each event is to take place in our lives. Nevertheless, we need to FORGET NOT that God is beyond time as we know it -which is called chronos.

The ancient Greeks had two words for time: chronos refers to clock time – time that can be measured – seconds, minutes, hours, years - it is quantitative; the second word is kairos, it is qualitative instead and it measures moments, not seconds. It refers to the right moment, the opportune moment. The perfect moment. 

Throughout the bible we see God speaking about this kairos time, which is the only TIME HE KNOWS and DWELLS in. Kairos is like God has stepped outside -our- time. It is a time where there is no past or future. Things are always PRESENT. That is why God is ETERNAL. He doesn´t get old as "time goes by"! 

 That is why Jesus´ sacrifice on the cross covers our past, present and future transgressions for He doesn´t think on terms of things that happened in the past, present or future. God didn´t make more miracles in the PAST than TODAY. He is a GOD OF MIRACLES - period. For him, there is only one time which is NOW, which is ETERNITY, and that is the PLACE where He works miracles, it is not about a TIME frame, but about WHO He is.  

God is inviting us to change our perspective of time. To think on terms of ETERNITY and jump into his perfect time where we can ENJOY HIS PERFECT JOY, PEACE, HEALTH NOW! We don´t have to keep fighting against time and things that happened or haven´t happened yet. We don´t need to try to manipulate time. We don´t need to be prisoners of it and keep our hearts troubled for not having achieved things we wish they were here already. 

Rather we can step into kairos, God´s time of favor which is NOW! We don´t need to wait till the next time we go to church, confess our sins, or have "an encounter with God". He has already encountered us  and our life is NOW hidden in Jesus (Col 3:3) and through him we have FULL ACCESS to God´s forgiveness and favor; for this is why Jesus came: "...to proclaim the ACCEPTABLE YEAR of the Lord" [the year of the Lord´s favor] Isa 61:2

To every thing there is a season,  and a time to every purpose under the heaven... Ecclesiastes 3:1  Nowadays one of people´s greatest excuses is: "I don´t have time". But it really amazes me  how that Jesus seemed to have time to every little and big thing as he walked on earth! Taking delight in God´s will...

I often wondered why it seemed to be so hard for us to accept God´s will.  Thinking about this, two things come to my mind: 1) Most of the time we are convinced that our own plans are the BEST way to attain our goals, to reach that place of peace and happiness; 2) We are not aware of God´s LOVE and the fact that every bit of His will has its root in HIS DEEP LOVE towards us. We have been deceived by being led to think that God only displays his will in order to mess up with our own plans. Submitting to his will often sounds like we are being nulyfied; it is usually not taken as a reason for joy, but for sorrow. BUT all that is NOT even close to THE TRUTH about God´s will for our lives. Again: we must remember that ALL HIS WILL IS ROOTED IN HIS DEEP LOVE FOR US!... We are HIS CHILDREN and every good father´s will is to do ALL HE CAN in order to cause his child to live an ABUNDANT LIFE, to prosper in ALL their ways and to be HAPPY.  So everything starts with t

Being a living magnet: attracting good things...

Surely goodness and mercy  shall follow me all the days of my life...  Psalm 23:6 One of the greatest issues in our hearts is doubting. It is like we KNOW in a way that God is good and He blesses us in many ways but we usually see it as a matter of SEASONS. There are seasons when we are happy, healthy, blessed... others not so! and this causes us not to be so SURE that things will be alright all the time .  But king David, even after facing great hardships (riots, persecution, betrayals), he would NOURISH one THOUGHT in his heart: THE ASSURANCE that God´s goodness and love would follow him ALL THE DAYS of his life. The only weapon against doubt is assurance. So we can always fight doubts in our hearts by simply declaring "SURELY his goodness and mercy will follow me"... We also see the prophet Isaiah teaching us such truth concerning our health (physical and emotional):  -Surely- he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows... (Isaiah 53:4)
